The members of the UConn Phi Beta Kappa Epsilon of Connecticut chapter voted to elect Dr. Guozhen Lu as an Honorary Member of PBK!
Dr. Lu is a Professor in UConn’s Department of Mathematics and Director of the Mathematical Sciences Research Collaboratory (MSRC), which funds cross-discipline and external collaborations. He joined the department in 2016 and prior to that held faculty positions at Wayne State and Wright State Universities and instructional positions at the California Institute of Technology and Zhejiang University.
Dr. Lu is a prolific scholar in fields that include harmonic analysis, geometric analysis, and partial differential equations. He has published numerous articles, and serves on the editorial boards of reputed journals, including The Journal of Geometric Analysis, Advanced Nonlinear Studies, Applied Mathematics Letters, and the Bulletin des Sciences Mathematiques, one of the oldest mathematics journals still in publication. He is the editor-in-chief of Forum Mathematicum, Advanced Nonlinear Studies, and De Gruyter’s book series Studies in Mathematics.
Dr. Lu’s contributions have been recognized by both national and international honors that include election as Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (the first ever among all UConn mathematics faculty), and the Association for Women in Mathematics (2025 class, first ever among Conn mathematics faculty). He was named Simons Fellow in Mathematics by the Simons Foundation (twice!) and is a member of the Connecticut Academy of Sciences and Engineering and the Connecticut Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In addition to his prodigious scholarship and accomplishment, Dr. Lu is an outstanding teacher and mentor, and has supervised PhDs who have gone on to secure excellent fellowships and teaching/research positions.
Dr. Lu received his PhD in Mathematics from Rutgers University and his BS from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China.
